Ashlie Swallow

Ashlie Swallow began her training at New Bedford Ballet at the age of four. She was a valuable member of the New Bedford Youth Ballet, performing many lead roles with the Youth Ballet and in the spring performances. Ms. Swallow continued her training with Burklyn Ballet Theatre working with notable choreographers such as Patti Brewer-Jones, Thom Clower and Julia K. Gleich.

Ms. Swallow attended Goucher College, where she received a bachelors degree in both Dance and Psychology, with a concentration in dance/movement therapy. While at Goucher she performed in many pieces including the legendary Doris Humphrey's 1933 masterpiece, The Libation Bearers, as reconstructed by Mino Nicolas. The entire rehearsal process was video-recorded for a film about this particular "lost" piece and Nicolas' effort to preserve it.

Her other achievements include stage managing a full-length dance concert, teaching creative movement to inner-city children in Baltimore, and costume design.

As a dance instructor, Ms. Swallow shares with her students not only a great passion for dance, but also her knowledge in human anatomy, kinesiology, dance history and the physical and psychological demands of being a dancer. Ms. Swallow joined the faculty of the New Bedford Ballet in 2007. She is one of the New Bedford Youth Ballet choreographers and is teaching in the young children's program along with the intermediate and advanced levels.
