New Bedford Ballet Policies

Parent Observation Week

The school year is divided into three twelve-week terms beginning in September and ending in June. Parents are welcome to attend during Observation Week, the last week of each term. As with all dance classes and performances, video recorders and cameras are not allowed.

Class Attendance

Students must attend all of their classes and rehearsals and be on time to assure proper warm-up and training, and to avoid disrupting the class. If illness or emergency prevents a student from attending class, parents should call the school to report the absence. Absences should be made-up (at the same level or below) within a month. Chronic absences may result in dismissal or failure to advance to the next level.

Rehearsal Attendance

Missing a rehearsal interferes not only with the other dancers, but with the entire production and the student’s role in it. In fairness to everyone and to assure success in the production, New Bedford Ballet reserves the right to re-cast or re-choreograph any piece, at any time. Students who do not feel they can make a full commitment to a production should not sign-up to be in one.

Advancement

Each student is individually monitored on their progression and advanced to the next level based upon individual ability and readiness.

Dress Code

Students must observe the dress code assigned to their level. Hair must be tied back, in a bun if possible, and away from the face and neck. No jewelry should be worn during classes, rehearsals or performances.

Class Behavior

Smoking, candy, junk food and gum are strictly prohibited.

Cancelations / Substitutions

The school reserves the right to cancel class and/or substitute teachers when it deems it necessary or appropriate. If inclement weather forces the school to close, an announcement will be made on the local radio stations and a message left at the school.

Tuition

Tuition is calculated on a 36-week school calendar. For your convenience it is divided into 9 equal payments and due on the following dates: August 31st, September 28th, October 26th, November 23rd, January 4th, February 1st, March 8th, April 5th and May 10th.  A $5.00 late fee will be added to any tuition that is not paid on time. All tuition must be paid in full by May 15th. Students with outstanding balances will not be allowed to participate in the final performance.

Tuition is not refunded for missed classes. Payment is expected regardless of whether the student is present in class. To withdraw from a class, parents must give written notice to the school administrator at least one month in advance of departure. Parents are responsible for payment until the written notice is received.
