The Three Dancing Princesses

New Bedford Ballet brings drama and magic to the Zeiterion Theatre stage with its performance of The Three Dancing Princesses on June 8th at 2:00 and 8:00. Set to music by Prokofiev and the choreography of artistic director Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault, along with ballet instructors Cindy Rascinski and Eugenia Zinovieva, dancers of all ages will enchant the audience in this interpretation of the Brothers’ Grimm fairytale, in which hope and the magic of a pure heart triumph over evil.

Graduating seniors Mary Bancroft, Olivia Cornell and Felicia Garro, all from Dartmouth, portray Svetlana, Uliana and Katyushka, three Russian princesses on a quest to save their mother, Queen Danila, played by Grayson Lord of Mattapoisett, from their scheming Aunt Natalia, played by Chloe Frenette of New Bedford. Full of hope and perseverance, the princesses journey to Mirnoye, a magical land inhabited with luna moths, golden owls, silver foxes and golden birch trees. After visiting the Fountain of Healing Water, the princesses return home to confront their aunt and save their mother. This classic tale of good vs. evil reminds us that purity of heart brings healing and not all riches are based in things.

New Bedford Ballet’s production of The Three Dancing Princesses is sponsored by Riccardi’s Italian Restaurants and Buffet Catering.  Reserved tickets are $22, and general admission prices are $17 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and children.  Special group rates are available for non-profit organizations.  Tickets can be purchased by contacting New Bedford Ballet at 508-993-1387.

Since 1987, the non-profit New Bedford Ballet has continued its mission of bringing the performing arts to our community.  To learn more about New Bedford Ballet, including child and adult classes and community programs, visit their website at www.newbedfordballet.org.
