New Bedford Ballet presents Swan Lake at Zeiterion Theater

Fostering the art of ballet throughout the South Coast.

Our Story

Founded by Ms. Shirley Kayne in 1986 in a basement studio in the city’s North End, New Bedford Ballet has grown both in size and reputation. In 2009, Ms. Kayne retired, and the school became a 501(c)3 non-profit, offering scholarships and expanding its commitment to community outreach and performance. Over the years New Bedford Ballet has collaborated with The New Bedford Symphony, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, AHA, DATMA, the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, and others.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault and the Board of Directors, the school continues to offer the highest level of structured dance training in ballet for ages three through adult.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the patient guidance of all my teachers, and to Ms. Waskiel for the organization and creation of so many roles and memories.”

— Joy Li, New Bedford Ballet graduate
